The Heritage Foundation's manifesto for the possible next administration could do great harm to many, including large portions of the game development community.
While the tools to create mods for Portal 2 will be exclusive to the PC, the content created with those tools will be playable across all versions of the title, according to Valve's Chet Falsizek.
While the tools to create mods for Portal 2 will be exclusive to the PC, the content created with those tools will be playable across all versions of the title, according to Valve's Chet Falsizek. In an interview with NowGamer, Falsizek said that the game-editing tools remained a PC exclusive due to "a bunch of dependencies that require the Windows platform." He added that the precise delivery method for the user-created content would vary across the PC, Mac, PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game, but that he felt it was important for the community to be able to share their content with the entire player base. "There’s just a lot of value in engaging the community because they’re smart, they’re thinking of really cool things and we want to be able to have everyone share that," he said. The Xbox 360 version of Super Meat Boy includes a special unlockable area, dubbed "Teh Internets," that allows for user- and developer-created levels from the PC level editor to be downloaded independent of Microsoft's Xbox Live Marketplace environment. Last week, Valve revealed that the PS3 version of Portal 2 will allow for cross-platform multiplayer with the PC and Mac versions through the company's SteamWorks platform. At the Consumer Electronics Show earlier this month, accessory-maker Razer revealed a special PC version of Portal 2 with extra levels designed for use with their upcoming, motion-sensitive Hydra controller. Portal 2 is currently targeted for an April 18 release date on all platforms after a two-month delay last November.
