Officials from Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment have announced that the company will release its own video game tie-in to the forthcoming Watchmen movie, but as episodic downloadable content rather than a standard retail release. The game will act as a prequel to the forthcoming movie, which adapts the critically acclaimed 1986 comic book series by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. The film is directed by 300’s Zack Snyder, with a screenplay written by Alex Tse and David Hayter (the latter famously providing the voice for Konami’s Solid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid series). At least two episodes will be released, one to coincide with the movie’s release in March and another for the film’s DVD release later in the year. Playable characters include Rorschach and Nite Owl, in what is described as a “mature action-brawler”. The games will be released for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC and is being developed by Danish company Deadline Games. The studio’s previous games include Total Overdose/Chili Con Carnage and the forthcoming Faith and a .45. "We're bringing the Watchmen universe to gamers in a distinct episodic game revealing action and combat for a great overall experience for fans," said Samantha Ryan, senior vice president of production and development at Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. "The filmmakers have been extremely helpful in developing the high-quality game story and we are working to match the outstanding visual style of the film."
