Sales of nearly all hardware platforms dropped in Japan week-on-week, Media Create reported Friday, as Nintendo DS and Sony PSP portables once again held off home consoles. For the week ended May 16, sales of the PSP line of hardware dropped to 25,364 from 36,697 week-on-week. Earlier this month, the handheld saw weekly sales double on the release of Konami and Hideo Kojima's Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. PSP sales include the older UMD-equipped PSP-3000 and the newer download-only PSP Go, which sold 24,475 and 871 units, respectively. On an individual platform basis, PSP-3000 led hardware sales charts despite the lagging sales. The Nintendo DS line of hardware -- DSi LL, DSi and DS Lite -- came out on top on a combined platforms basis, selling 28,564 units, down from 46,393 units a week prior. Broken down by individual models, the DSi LL sold 15,879, DSi sold 9,990 and DS Lite sold 2,695. All hardware was down week-on-week except for the slow-selling Xbox 360, which sold 4,370 units during the week, up slightly from 4,278. Below are the full sales rankings from Media Create for the week ended May 16, 2010. (The second chart lumps together sales of all models in a given line of hardware.)
