WiiWare Adds Pirates, VC Gets Super Fantasy Zone, Gley Lancer

Nintendo has updated its North American WiiWare shop with one new title, Pirates: The Key of Dreams (pictured) from developer Oxygen Games. The company also adds two import Sega Genesis 0shoot’em-ups, Super Fantasy Zone and Gley Lancer, to its Virtual Console offerings. In Pirates: The Key of Dreams, a “nautical shoot-’em-up,” players chase villainous Carribean Sea pirate Blackbeard over 35 levels and seven themed environments in a quest to retrieve the Key of Dreams. Players will be able to choose from different ship types, rescue castaways to add to their crew and upgrade the ship, and collect a variety of weapons, such as rockets, saw blades, and flamethrowers. The game also includes a Turbo mode and a multiplayer versus mode for up to four players. Originally released in Europe and Japan in 1993, Super Fantasy Zone is the sixth and last game in the Fantasy Zone series. Players take on the role of egg-shaped hero Opa-Opa in this Sunsoft-developed side-scrolling shooter as he destroys enemies to collect gold, buys weapons and upgrades, and fights off Menon Guardians at the end of each stage. Developer NCS’s Gley Lancer adds a third shoot’em-up to this week’s roster, which appears outside of Japan for the first time since the title was released in 1992. Set in 2025, the game has players following 16-year-old starfighter pilot Lucia as she hijacks a prototype craft, the Gley Lancer, to rescue her father from an army of aliens determined to destroy the human race. The three games are are available for download on North America's Wii Shopping Channel, priced at 1000 Wii Points ($10) for Pirates: The Key of Dreams, 900 Wii Points ($9) for Super Fantasy Zone, and 900 Wii Points ($9) for Gley Lancer.
