Kharkiv, Ukraine – November 5, 2024. Bear Games is excited to announce Comix Zero, a genre-bending ‘comixvania’ adventure set within the pages of an interactive comic book.

In Comix Zero, players jump between panels, break through page borders, and fight by draining enemies of ink. Combining Metroidvania exploration with Elden Ring-inspired progression, Comix Zero builds an open world with no gated progression. But there’s a twist: each time players die, the protagonist loses a piece of his memory, altering character relationships and reshaping the story.

To celebrate the announcement, Bear Games has released the first gameplay trailer, giving players a look into Comix Zero’s interactive comic book concept, brutal yet beautiful world, and wisecracking protagonist.

You’re Zero, an unlikely hero waking up in a world straight out of a dark fantasy comic book. The plan was simple — kill the bad guys, get the girl(s) — until you became an immortal. Now, every time you die, you lose a piece of your memory. Soon, it won’t be the keys you’re forgetting.

Dubbed the ‘world’s first comixvania’, Comix Zero reinvents the Metroidvania genre with Souls-like progression and an ‘interactive comic book’ design inspired by 1995’s classic Comix Zone. The game world is laid out as a graphic novel, with players moving across panels and breaking through page gutters to progress.

In Comix Zero’s open world, new paths are unlocked not with specific abilities but by your skill and determination. And each death counts — as memories fade, characters start reacting differently, leading Zero to new outcomes and changing the game’s ending.

Every page could be your last. Every joke has a punchline. Every death wipes a piece of your memory. Can you survive long enough before it all fades away?

Key Features

  • An Interactive Comic Book. Step into the pages of a living comic book, where every screen unfolds as a multi-page spread. Leap from panel to panel, smash through borders, and discover secrets hidden in the margins.

  • A Journey Shaped By Death. Zero loses a piece of his memory every time he dies. The world remembers and reacts — your relationships to other characters change, leading you to unexpected twists and shifting the story.

  • A Skill-Based Open World. Explore a truly open world unlocked by your skill as a player, not by arbitrary gates and specific abilities. You can go anywhere… If you’re up to it.

  • Your Hero, Your Way. Tailor Zero’s gear to match your playstyle with RPG-inspired customization. Drink potions, craft items, and chat with NPCs to take on quests and get rewards.

  • Precision Combat. Master combat that rewards timing and precision over button-mashing. Each encounter is a test of skill, every victory feels earned, and every death teaches you a lesson.

  • Laughs In the Face of Danger. Zero grapples with morally complex choices, political intrigue, and no shortage of dark moments — but he just can’t resist delivering punchlines.
