CSO Simtek Ltd announces that the Alpha of Close Combat RAF Regiment is now in testing. CCRAFRegt is a modification of CCM (Close Combat Marine) under License from Destineer, for the British RAF Regiment, and will become part of their training programme as a TDS (Tactical Decision-making Simulator) at the Squad or Small Team level.

This is also part of the ongoing work on our own engine Synision powering a new simulation tentatively called Tactical Reality. Its envisioned that TR that will become the next simulation to take over from the CC Series. The new engine is being worked on for both commercial and military applications with the USMC heavily involved.

As well as graphic changes in order to make it personal to the RAF Regiment, this iteration of Close Combat introduces several new features.

  • Multiplayer is now 5 on 5, making 10 concurrent sessions possible.

  • Battle Replay (although present in CCM, it was broken), had to be rebuilt. This includes Multiplayer sessions.

  • Some of the functions previously built into the executables have been re-engineered for easier modification.

  • Maps do not require any special handling. The limitations of CCM have been removed, and Maps can be copied into the relevant location, and will automatically be picked up by the Editor (in similar fashion to Close Combat III)

Additional modifications were made to improve a variety of issues including Mount/Dismount, AI, and performance.

The RAF Regiment expressed their interest in this production of Close Combat last year (2005). Roll out is planned for sometime in February 2006, which shows how quickly results can be achieved where the will, expertise and resources are available!

CCM, from which CCRAFRegt has evolved, is in use by the USMC as part of their range of TDSís, and has been for a couple of years. It requires only moderate technology to operate by todayís standards, and is extremely easy to become familiar with.

Many of the Team working on this Project are well known to the Close Combat Community, built up over the years around the Close Combat Series of games by Atomic Games. Close Combat has been the focus of considerable modification effort by the community over the years, and still continues to thrive.

CSO Simtek Ltd are in discussion with other organisations regarding development of personalised Close Combat based TDSís as part of their training initiatives.
