LONDON, UK - 10th October 2024 Curve Games and No Brakes Games have launched the Human Fall Flat University Level Design Challenge in 138 universities across China.

With a grand prize of $10K and invaluable real-world game design experience, participants are invited to design new levels for the hit franchise Human Fall Flat, beloved globally and especially popular in China.

The challenge, which marks a significant collaboration with Unity China, gives students a unique opportunity to participate and showcase their creativity. This partnership, along with support from Chinese modding tool company Yahaha, has amplified excitement within the country, where Human Fall Flat has sold 18 million units across PC, Switch and mobile.

Junbo Zhang, CEO of Unity China said, “We have always believed in the younger generation as a driving force of future development for the gaming industry. Partnering with Curve Games provides a platform for aspiring students to showcase their creativity and talents, empowering them to continually grow on their journeys as our future game makers.”

Participants will design new levels for the franchise, which recently also announced its upcoming VR release on Steam VR, META Quest 2 & 3, and PSVR2, dropping 31st October 2024. Watch the teaser trailer here

Using Unity, students must submit their creations by 31st December 2024, with themes including High Fantasy, Greek or Norse Myths and Steampunk Airship. Levels should embody the iconic wobbly, physics-driven fun that Human Fall Flat is famous for.

The winning student will not only receive the $10K prize but will also collaborate directly with developers to refine their level for official release. Runners-up will benefit from career-building resources, including CV reviews and guidance from industry professionals at Curve Games and No Brakes Games. Unity China and Yahaha will additionally provide prizes, merchandise and creator support packages.

Tomas Sakalauskas, creator of Human Fall Flat, remarked, “We are thrilled to see the global response to this challenge, especially from China. This competition is a great way for aspiring game designers to showcase their skills, and we’re excited to partner with Unity China to give even more students the chance to join the fun.

With over 138 university partnerships and major engagement from China, this challenge is shaping up to be a landmark partnership.
