Desert Bus for Hope :
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NOVEMBER 7TH, 2024
VICTORIA, BC, Canada – On November 8, 2024, at 3 pm Pacific, Desert Bus for Hope 2024 will kick off their annual telethon fundraiser in support of Child’s Play Charity.
Now entering its 18th year, Desert Bus For Hope begins their annual fundraiser for Child’s Play Charity on Friday, November 8th. The 24/7 live stream will start at 3PM Pacific at twitch.tv/desertbus & desertbus.org, and will continue for as long the audience continues to donate. With a talented team of volunteers and entertainers ready to sing, dance, act, and more, Desert Bus for Hope has become one of the most successful online charity drives, raising over $10,000,000 over the past seventeen years for Child’s Play.
The premise of Desert Bus For Hope is straightforward— play ‘Desert Bus’, often touted as the world’s most boring video game. The never-released game was part of a set of mini-games designed by magicians Penn and Teller in which players drive the titular bus through the desert from Tucson, AZ to Las Vegas, NV in real time, a full eight-hour trip. With no other traffic or obstacles of any kind, the game becomes an endurance test, as players must pay full attention to the game for eight hours straight to prevent the bus from crashing. To compensate, a dedicated team of volunteers keeps the audience entertained with a mix of planned and unplanned activities—from singing and dancing, to human pyramids and reaction content— anything to keep the 'driver' focused, keep the audience interested, and keep the donations coming in.
Over the past 17 years, Desert Bus for Hope’s live-streamed activities have raised over $10.6 million for Child’s Play through a combination of auctions, giveaways, and a very generous & enthusiastic chatroom of thousands of live viewers.
