London, 23rd August 2023 – FULL ALERT!!!! Gearbox Entertainment and Laced Records have strategically allied to bring the renowned music of Homeworld Remastered and Homeworld 2 Remastered to vinyl.
Pre-orders are open via www.lacedrecords.com for respective vinyl releases: the Homeworld Remastered Limited Edition double LP features orange galaxy effect discs; while the Homeworld 2 Remastered Limited Edition triple LP boasts discs in smoky grey galaxy effect (standard edition variants feature traditional black discs).
Both record sleeves feature artwork from across the series by Relic Entertainment and Gearbox Entertainment. LPs come in printed inner sleeves, all housed in silver laminated widespined outer sleeves. All music has been specially mastered for vinyl and will be pressed onto heavyweight discs.
In addition, both the Homeworld Remastered and Homeworld 2 Remastered soundtrack albums — joined by Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak — are now available to stream and download via Spotify, Apple Music/iTunes, Amazon, and many other music streaming services. As the developers at Relic Entertainment busily crafted the grand space strategy of 1999’s Homeworld, series composer Paul Ruskay was left largely to his own devices in crafting the now iconic score. He took diverse inspiration from Vangelis’ score for Blade Runner, Brian Eno, the sampling of traditional instruments from all over the globe by Algerian DJ Cheb i Sabbah, and ambient electronica duo Delirium. Homeworld’s score was born of limitations thanks to Ruskay’s “primitive setup” of synthesiser, sampler and sequencer — at the time his Studio X Labs were being built around him — and this forced him to produce instinctive, live mixes. Later Homeworld titles saw the composer move towards rich, live recorded instruments, including elegant but intense strings, and traditional Indian singing and instrumentation.
During the Homeworld Remastered Collection restoration process, Ruskay dug out the original music DAT tapes out of a shoe box, dusted off decade-old Pro Tool Studio sessions, and had uncompressed versions made of all tracks. Subtle, faithful musical elements were added to help widen the mixes of the first Homeworld in particular, and both soundtrack albums were then mindfully remixed and sequenced.
Homeworld is an award-winning real-time strategy franchise. Its unique aesthetic — with colourful ship trails criss-crossing against grand, galactic backgrounds — make it instantly recognisable. Its genre-shaping gameplay invited RTS players to truly think in 3D, and to carefully consider resource management between missions during the interconnected campaign missions.
