FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Hamburg, Germany, March 1st, 2022 - Indie developer Ole Jürgensen has today released a playable demo of their upcoming VR action-roguelike Crumbling on Steam and SideQuest. Get ready to experience Crumbling’s unique third-person movement system, where your controller becomes the character. It’s as intuitive as waving your favorite action figure through the air. The Crumbling demo is now available for Oculus Quest 2 and Oculus Rift S.

Crumbling lets players manipulate the magical toys of Mr. and Mrs. Crumble. Their famous Crumble Crafts & Comics store is in peril after the evil minions of Böse Corp. have stolen the magic that makes their enchanted figurines come to life in order to amass an army of vicious toy monsters. In order to win the fight, reclaim the magic and save the store, players must wield these extraordinary knicknacks called “the Crumblings”. Their fate is in your hand – literally!
Starting out in the Crumble’s store you’ll be introduced to the game’s story through an interactive comic book that sets the scene. The demo contains Crumbling’s first world - a cave themed land consisting of five unique dioramas, as well as  a tutorial for the game’s unique control scheme. You’ll get to play as the game’s starting character with a standard attack sequence and a special ability, while the levels introduce a bunch of different power-ups, including two new special abilities that either freeze or burn your enemies.

The full game will include several more stages, new enemies and bosses, additional playable characters with unique attacks, a fully fleshed out story, and a slew of unlockable special abilities when it launches on Steam and App Lab in 2022.

“People typically think of VR as being limited to first-person games, but we realized it had a huge potential for third-person action where you use the motion controls in conjunction with your all encompassing surroundings,” said Crumbling creative director Ole Jürgensen. “I loved playing with action figures as a kid, so the idea of doing so with magical toys that could come alive was always a fantasy of mine. VR offers the opportunity to bring this vision to life in a way that feels utterly intuitive and charming. We’re very excited for people to try Crumbling for themselves and understand what makes it such a unique experience.”

After the end of the intensive program, the teams receive additional individual coachings during the following 12 months to help them prepare their game for release.

The progress of Crumbling during the Games Lift Incubator convinced the Jury of Gamecity Hamburg to further support the project as part of the prototype funding. These funds enable local game studios to develop marketable prototypes over the course of up to 12 months. Crumbling was also the recipient of Gamecity Hamburg’s Prototype Funding initiative, allowing selected start-ups from Hamburg to develop prototypes in order to position themselves in the growing global games market.
