"It's a great validation of our value proposition that Intel is working with us to help showcase such a revolutionary step forward in games technology," said Mark Nielsen, Executive Director of iGames. "With Seasons of Extreme, Intel adds incredible value for iGames members centers and the customers they serve."
"A decade of gaming history has led to this moment which we are thrilled to bring to the iGames community," said Tim Takeuchi, Gaming Campaign Strategy Manager, Intel. "The Intel Pentium 4 process Extreme Edition platforms provide the high-performance and robust and lifelike experience that today's most cutting-edge games require."
Seasons of Extreme comes on the heels of the April retail launch of Intel's first dual-core processor-based platform, which includes the Intel Pentium Processor Extreme Edition 840 running at 3.2 GHz and the Intel 955X Express Chipset. The dual-core processor-based systems, which are geared for computer hobbyists and entertainment enthusiasts, are available for purchase in desktop PCs and workstations sold by computer manufacturers such as Alienware*, Dell* and Velocity Micro*.
"Our ongoing efforts with Intel on the dual core processors have allowed us to provide users with a superior gaming experience," said Randy Copeland, Velocity Micro Founder and President. "Reaching out to the gaming community by making the best PCs on the market has always been one of our primary goals. Our partnership with Intel enables us to make significant progress in achieving that goal."
For those unfamiliar with the technology, dual-core processors are designed by including two full execution cores within a single processor enabling simultaneous management of activities. When combined with Intel's Hyper-Threading Technology, which allows each execution core to present itself as two logical processors, the Intel Pentium Processor Extreme Edition 840 can process four software threads simultaneously by more efficiently using resources that otherwise may sit idle.
