FALUN, SWEDEN. November 11, 2024 – Swordlake Entertainment announces the official release of their visual novel RPG, Mistwinter Bay, on November 15 2024. Rule Mistwinter Bay by interacting with townsfolk and foreign leaders, building, and tackling random events that affect the town.
Take on the role of sovereign of a town called Mistwinter Bay. The sovereign you create decides the fate of the town and everyone in it. Decide which buildings to build and who gets to move in. Interact with your townsfolk by sending them on missions or hang out one-on-one. Each character is unique, with their own profession, personal history, relationships, strengths and weaknesses. Deal with international politics by allying with or becoming the enemy of powerful foreign leaders. Watch the seasons pass as you are faced with a unique, random event every month. The way you handle an event not only affects the ending of the event itself, but it could also influence the entire town forever. Will you become a sovereign loved by all or will you adapt your choices to please someone specific in town – or perhaps someone across the sea? Mistwinter Bay is in your hands. No playthrough will ever be the same as another!

Game content
In Mistwinter Bay, you are the ruler - the fully customizable, so-called sovereign - of the town of Mistwinter Bay. You get to rule for five years, watching the seasons pass as you play. By making choices in unique events that occur every month, you shape the town and its people. There are 32 unique characters who can live in the town and it is up to you to decide who moves in. Subjects, as well as six foreign rulers, may like or dislike you based on your actions. Positive reputation with a character opens up the opportunity to deepen the relationship with them. Negative reputation may lead to an unfixable relationship or even someone’s death.
There are many choices leading to unique outcomes in dialogue, and many of them affect the town’s resources or characters’ perception of you. With several unique endings to each event, randomization of which events will occur and more events than can be cleared during a single playthrough, every playthrough is a unique experience. This is in accordance with one of the game’s unique features: being a story-based game that is meant to be played several times and still provide a unique experience.
Expand the town with buildings of your choosing. Since most buildings are linked to a townsperson, you also decide who gets to move in. Sometimes, you may have to choose between two possible buildings to place on a lot, which means it is impossible to place all buildings and have all characters in a single playthrough. The characters you have impact how you can handle events, since you can send subjects to complete certain tasks. All characters are unique with their own personality, stories and set of skills, which means they can succeed or fail at tasks. If they fail, there is a risk that they will perish in some scenarios. Even the sovereign is not immune to death, and depending on your game settings, anyone’s death can be permanent.
Additions to the full release
The November release of Mistwinter Bay provides access to all of the game’s promised features. One such feature is the ability to marry one of the 38 available spouses. This also includes the full stories of all of the 38 possible spouses, who each have: five hangouts, at least one personal quest, a proposal and after-wedding event, three unique married life events, a negative reputation event and multiple endings. All of the content is unique to each possible spouse.
If you have gotten married, you will eventually be presented with the option to adopt a child. There are four children to choose from and all four have their own personalities and stories to discover. As their parent, you can influence your child’s future career path. Should they follow in your footsteps as sovereign, or perhaps life has even grander things in store for them?
Character customization is a big part of what makes your sovereign unique, and it is now possible to unlock new outfits over the course of the game. 18 outfits can be unlocked through various means, such as building or upgrading buildings, getting married, signing an alliance or making certain choices in events. All outfits, as well as hair, eyes, accessories and much more, can be freely colored in the character customization menus. Thanks to the tools Mistwinter Bay’s character creator provides, it is possible to create a wide variety of sovereigns with different body shapes and skin tones.
With over 100 unique main events, more than 1.6 million words of dialogue across thousands of choices, more than 40 unique collection items, multiple unlockable laws and countless complex, intertwining mechanics, each playthrough of Mistwinter Bay is bound to be unique.
