Already boasting strong growth over the year of 2021, the start of 2022 has brought more success to the award-winning northern studio.
Founded by Bob Makin and Darren Cuthbert, the pair were soon joined by Darren Falcus, a long-time key player in the gaming industry with over 35 years’ of experience; who co-founded Optimus Software, one of the first video game studios in Teesside.
Nurturing talent in the region, as well as welcoming those from further afield, they have hired a new Head of Design to lead their team of budding and established designers. Adding to the ever-growing team of skilled game-developers working on both work-for-hire and own IP projects.
The studios’ new head of design, Dewi Roberts, spent the last decade working at Traveller’s Tales; bringing many of their Lego games to life and championing the logistics of the open-world gameplay in games like Lego Lord of the Rings.
The design team isn’t the only team welcoming new talent, the new year also welcomed Emma Berry to the animation team. Joining from Coatsink, Berry has worked on projects such as Jurassic World: Aftermath and Transformers: Battlegrounds.
The addition of established industry talent to the studio has facilitated the further growth of the studio through the hiring of fresh faces. Since January the design team in particular has seen record growth.
Not only has the studio increased in size, but their new offices in the centre of Middlesbrough are currently undergoing a makeover by local interior designer Cocoon & Bauer which will see.
Bob Makin, CEO is thrilled with the continued growth: “We're always looking to welcome new people who add a fantastic new skillset and to the culture here at SockMonkey. It's an exciting time for us all, and the new faces here are just some of the many we've got planned for the next 12 months. I'm delighted that they're joining us.”
