1 December 2023 – Let’s dance! Rhythm game LOFI Katana is stepping into VR platforms on December 1 on Steam and Meta App Lab, with PS VR2 release slated for Q2, 2024. The standard price will be $16.99 and the game releases with a 20% launch discount on Steam lasting to the end of Steam VR Fest to December 11.
LOFI Katana is a rhythm game the debut VR game by the Swiss developer LOFI Clan and published by the Finnish publisher VRKiwi. The game is easy to pick up: the player chooses a song and desired settings to create a round. Then the player steps into the play area: a rooftop musical sanctuary where they hit the beats with a katana and a fan. There are also shurikens flying towards the player which can be deflected with the katana for more points.
What sets LOFI Katana apart from other rhythm games is its distinct theme: the duality of daytime and nighttime, each with its selection of songs. The day time draws inspiration from the calm atmosphere of lofi music and the works of the anime giants like Ghibli and Makoto Shinkai, whereas the night time draws inspiration from synthwave and cyberpunk universes like Blade Runner.
What also sets LOFI Katana apart from its peers, is the addition of a fan – or fans if using the Only Fans mode. Depending on the chosen mode from three available ones at launch, the rounds lean more to the dance or combat style. LOFI Katana is hard to master so it’s equally satisfying to both type of players: those who are looking for a real rhythm challenge, and those who are into relaxing in a calm and beautiful atmosphere after a busy day.
Players can also copy their songs in MP3 and WAV formats into the /Tracks folder of the game. LOFI Katana’s algorithm creates a deterministic gameplay from the songs and generates a level from the player chosen parameters.
LOFI Katana supports LIV, a VR software for creators for VTubing, Mixed Reality Capture and VR native utilities like in-headset stream chat, alerts and notifications. LIV is available on Steam for free of charge.
