SMART Technologies | Calgary, Canada, February 17th, 2023 - SMART Technologies is proud to reveal that its story-driven, strategic card battler The Last Kids on Earth: Hit the Deck! is now out of Steam Early Access! Priced at $14.99, with a 33% launch discount through February 24th making it $9.99, this full launch adds additional playable characters, quests, cards, a crafting table, custom card creator, statistics, new enemies, gear, consumables, and more.

Based on the Emmy-winning TV series The Last Kids on Earth from Atomic Cartoons and Max Brallier’s bestselling novels of the same name, The Last Kids on Earth: Hit the Deck! lets players inhabit the world of Jack Sullivan, and his friends June, Quint, and Dirk as they live in a tricked-out Tree Fortress of Awesomeness and fend off hordes of drooling zombies and giganto monsters from another dimension.

The Last Kids on Earth: Hit the Deck! was created by an all-star design team led by SMART Technologies' Andy Cargile, designer of the 2022 Gold Medal International Serious Play award-winning Monsters vs. Fractions; Rob Heinsoo, multi-ENNIE award-winning designer and designer of Epic Spell Wars: Battle for Mount Skullzfyre; and Jay Schneider, Game of the Year award winner for Shadowrun: Crossfire and game producer and designer of Magic the Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers

“We want The Last Kids on Earth: Hit the Deck! to appeal to two audiences: those familiar with the source material, and those without any prior knowledge of it,” said Andy Cargile, Head of Game-Based Learning. “For fans of The Last Kids on Earth TV series and books, Hit the Deck! will offer more time with its infectious, quirky characters. And those unfamiliar with it will still find an in-depth roguelite with deck-building mechanics. And who knows, they may find themselves fans of the franchise by the end!”

“With the full launch of The Last Kids on Earth: Hit the Deck! fans will have even more amazing ways to interact with the incredible world and characters contained in one of the most successful kids book series right now,” said Richard Goldsmith, President of Global Distribution and Consumer Products, Atomic Cartoons/Thunderbird Entertainment. “And it’s such a great interpretation, that we’re hoping to make fans of the players new to the property. We just love how SMART has translated The Last Kids to this interactive format.”

“Following the successful release of the existing console/PC game about a year ago, we are thrilled to see this new application coming out. It will enable all the fans of The Last Kids on Earth to enjoy an exciting new gaming experience,” added Dominique Bourse Chairman and CEO of Cyber Group Studios and Thierry Braille, Vice President, Interactive and Video Game Division.

In The Last Kids on Earth: Hit the Deck! each of the four character’s actions are represented by a customizable deck used for tag-team combat in this cuckoo bananas post-apocalyptic world. Each character has their own unique strengths and weaknesses. Abandoned foster kid and monster-slaying tough guy survivor Jack is great at teamwork and fights harder when his health is down. June is as expert at kicking zombie butt as she is adept at seeing monster intentions and evading attacks. Super-rad scientist Quint can choose his gear on the fly and is exceptional at using buffs and debuffs, while former bully Dirk is a super-strong monster-battling tornado who can shield anyone in combat.

Play from more than 400 unique cards and embark on over 30 quests that follow the events of the first book. Unique to The Last Kids on Earth:Hit the Deck! is the story deck, a combination of cards representing the options available to the characters based on their location and ongoing story elements.

Your options are further expanded with a crafting table where you can refill consumables, upgrade gear, and even create your own custom cards tied to a specific character! The post-apocalyptic world may have ravaged the population and society as we know it, but on the plus side there’s no homework, no parents, and no rules!

Atomic Cartoons’ parent company Thunderbird Entertainment Group acquired the IP rights for The Last Kids on Earth in 2017. In addition to the Netflix series and video game The Last Kids On Earth and The Staff Of Doom, Atomic and licensing agent Cyber Group Studios, have launched a toy and merchandise line based on the series with Jakks Pacific, and a t-shirt line with Hot Topic.
