Fans may already recognize JOR’s work; he created the original soundtrack featured in Steel Aces' recent collaboration with the Canadian Tank Museum for their high-profile event, the Tank Armageddon Show.

About JOR
I have a deep passion for music and creating atmospheres. What fascinates me is the aesthetic side of war games and films. It’s not the war itself that draws me in, but the raw beauty of it all. The ironclad tanks, the muted army colours, the scent of gunpowder and petrol blending with damp forest floors – it’s not just visually stunning, it also radiates power and determination. This intense atmosphere constantly inspires my work. For me, atmosphere is everything. How do you make players feel tension or relief without laying it on too thick? During my time in theatre, I quickly learned how to influence people as soon as they entered the room. Whether they’re calm, nervous, or hyped, it all starts with the right sounds. That’s the craft I try to capture in my music.
Musical Journey
My musical journey started young. Music runs in the family: my dad and brother are drummers, my mum plays the flugelhorn, and I started with the trumpet when I was ten, but the instrument never felt quite right for me. That changed in 2015 when I learned how to compose music on a computer. Suddenly, music became something visual. I could endlessly tweak and listen by ear, without needing to read sheet music. Even though I don’t play any instruments physically, I can now ‘play’ any instrument digitally, as long as it's available in my software.
When it comes to musical influences, I’m a mix of Danny Elfman, My Chemical Romance, René Merkelbach, and Phantom Manor. My music always has a hint of danger, underlying tension, and sometimes explosive bombast. Even in my most serene compositions, you’ll find layers of strings and brass. As long as it’s cinematic, I can appreciate it.
Creative Worlds
Outside of music, I’m always immersed in creative worlds. I have a background in theatre tech and work as a prop maker for film and TV. I’m also in a prototyping lab daily, working with laser cutters, 3D printers, and students. Plus, my monthly visits to the Efteling and Disneyland Paris inspire me.
