Capcom has announced Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, the next title in the Resident Evil series, is scheduled for release this winter. Coming to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, the collaboration between Capcom and Vancouver-based studio Slant Six Games (SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 3) is set to feature "a reinterpretation of the events depicted in Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3." Up to four players take on the roles of Umbrella Security Services forces, working cooperatively to destroy all evidence of the cause of the T-virus outbreak. Players will have the opportunity to rewrite the original story, fighting against and eliminating fan favorites such as Leon S. Kennedy and the Raccoon City police force. Zombies are not the only worry in Operation Raccoon City, as U.S. Government special forces are looking to expose the Umbrella Corporation and the cause of the virus. The game also promises the return of iconic boss battles, landmarks and scenes, albeit from a different, more sinister perspective. A number of competitive online multiplayer modes will also be available, with Umbrella Security Services, U.S. Special Ops soldiers and zombies providing three-way battling. Capcom also revealed that Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D, the first Resident Evil title coming to Nintendo 3DS in the next few months, will ship with a playable demo of Resident Evil Revelations, yet another RE game set to be revealed at E3 later this year. Earlier this month, the publisher confirmed that HD remakes of Resident Evil: Code Veronica X and Resident Evil 4 are currently in the works for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
