GarageGames has released version 1.1 of its Torque3D engine, adding new features as well as additional demos, character models, vehicles, tutorials, and documentation. The update includes newly optimized support for zoned scene rendering and more accurate and efficient portal-based occlusion, as well as promising improved stability and hundreds of bug fixes over previous versions of the engine. The new engine also comes with four new sample environments, overhauled tutorials and new documentation, including online reference resources. "We ran a survey at the beginning of the year on several sites," GarageGames CEO Eric Preisz said in a statement. "It’s clear to us that our constituents want better documentation, performance, and stability. We delivered." Existing licensees can download the update for free, and new licensees can purchase a license for a limited-time reduced price of $99. This is the first major update to the Torque3D engine since the company split off from shuttered browser-based game outfit Instant Action earlier this year.
