Intel-owned middleware provider Havok has announced an agreement with development tools company Autodesk that will see the Havok Vision Engine integrated with Autodesk functionality. Havok's engine will have Autodesk's Scaleform and Beast middlewares fully integrated, expanding its current toolset options, providing a new user interface and new global illumination functionalities. Users will also be able to create user interfaces based on Flash 10 and ActionScript 3.0 thanks to the added functionality. David Coghlan, managing director at Havok, explained, "We have seen extensive use of Scaleform and Beast across our Vision Engine clients and a strong interest in a tighter integration between our technologies." "This Vision Engine bundle, which also includes Havok Physics and Havok AI, has become our standard Vision offering, extending the reach of both companies’ technologies across new geographies and market segments." Autodesk VP of Games Marc Stevens added, "Havok and Autodesk have worked closely together for many years and we are very excited about the opportunity to have Scaleform and Beast included as a core element in Havok's well-respected technology portfolio." Earlier this week, Autodesk announced that it had acquired "certain technology assets" and staffers from Montreal-based AI specialists Grip Entertainment, absorbing them into its existing line of AI products.
