The history of game design and development is, like many other art forms, a history of technical advancements informing artistic vision and vice versa. If you're going to understand the history of making games, it helps to understand the ins and outs of the tools that were used to make them.

Lucky for us, Ubisoft Technology Group UX director David Lightbown has a lot to say about this subject, and will be joining us for a live tools demo at 3PM EST on the Gamasutra Twitch channel.

It's been a few years since any developers were working with the original Unreal Engine, so users of the newer versions and veteran developers who hammered away on the original may appreciate this look back at game-making history. Be sure to share your memories in Twitch chat!

And while you're at it, be sure to follow the Gamasutra Twitch channel for more developer interviews, editor roundtables and gameplay commentary.
