Middleware developer Havok introduced Havok 5.5 at the Game Developers Conference today, touting new improvements and features for its modular suite of run-time technology and artist tools. Havok 5.5's announcement comes at the heels of Havok Cloth and Havok Destruction's debut yesterday. The updated toolset promises substantial enhancements for its core products -- Havok Physics, Havok Animation, and Havok Behavior. Havok Physics 5.5 enjoys a new level of multiplatform physics optimizations, as well as collision query advancements specifically for the PlayStation 3. Havok Animation 5.5 boasts improved performance, lower memory requirements, and more sophisticated tools for compression and exporting tasks. Havok Behavior 5.5 benefits from a variety of asset management enhancements including improved global character positioning and modified visualization of behavior trees. “Havok 5.5 represents the most innovative version of our suite of products to date, and with it Havok will help drive the next generation of bestsellers and award-winners,” said David O’Meara, Managing Director of Havok.
