Senior Engineer - GameplayTangentlemen

Location: Los Angeles, CA

Tangentlemen are looking for a jack of all trades Senior Engineer. If you love working in the Unreal Engine and have a passion for scary games then try your hand at joining a new company and a new culture. You must thrive in a small, tight team environment where each member holds a high degree of autonomy and accountability.

Responsibilities:

  • As a generalist, design and implement engineering solutions on demand in many areas of game development especially pertaining to game mechanics, player controls, AI, animation, physics, rendering, and UI.

  • Create editor and standalone tools with intuitive UI and workflow as well as an efficient content pipeline without programmer interventions.

  • Write well architected, reliable, maintainable, and bug-free code with an eye towards re-usability for multiple games.

  • Collaborate with team members to develop various gameplay systems.

  • Develop and test code, fix bugs, and profile and optimize code as directed.

  • Follow best practices, development processes, and coding standards.

  • Document and peer review technical designs with other software engineers.

  • Work with QA, providing information needed to fully test developed code.

  • Provide support to internal customers for developed software.

  • Keep up to date on state-of-the-art software engineering methods, practices, and technologies.

  • Communicate with other team members, internal customers, and when required external customers to determine requirements.

  • Work well together with other team members in a cooperative, cross-disciplinary team environment.

  • Identify technical and developmental risks/obstacles and generate solutions to overcome identified risks.

  • Possess and develop areas of engineering expertise.

Requirements:

  • Unreal 4 or 3 development experience.

  • C++ proficiency and strong object oriented design skills.

  • Ability to quickly and independently learn and enhance a large established code base.

  • Experience in the design and implementation of game systems, including AI and navigations systems, physics, player mechanics, camera, rendering, UI, FX and game object management.

  • Experience with memory management, multi-threaded programming, cross-platform development, low level programming and a working knowledge of 3D math.

  • Capable of working with and creating game scripting systems.

  • Experience in enhancing existing game editor with intuitive UI and efficient workflow with no programming intervention.

  • A passion for well architected, reliable, maintainable, and extensible code with good coding standards.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Math, Engineering or related area

  • Minimum of 4 years game industry experience with 1 shipped title especially Console products.

  • Adept at working with game designers and artists to implement gameplay features

  • Ability to judge feature quality in relation to other current competing games

  • Excellent analysis, problem solving, and rapid deployment of effective solutions

  • Ability to prioritize, plan, and organize work

  • Must be an effective communicator, both verbally and written

  • Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and the ability to work in a highly collaborative team environment.

  • A passion for making and playing games with an eye for detail and feel for good gameplay.

Pluses:

  • Experience in virtual reality development.

  • Experience in developing build systems.

  • Mel script or Python development skills.

  • UI development experience.

  • Practice developing in a Scrum or Agile development environment
