Senior Software Engineer, Linden Lab

Location: San Francisco, CA Linden Lab is a developer of digital entertainment that inspires users to create, socialize, share — and have fun. Founded in 1999, the company pioneered the virtual world space with Second Life. This massively multiplayer online platform entertains millions around the globe with an expansive online community, a unique virtual currency and a robust marketplace. In 2012 and beyond, the company is unveiling a new slate of shared creative spaces that allow for collaborative creativity across multiple platforms. What you'll do Perform critical analysis of existing system architecture with a focus on core engine development Lead and participate in design discussions. Architect and build new systems as well as improvements to existing functionality. Write and deploy highly performant, reliable, and scalable code. Collaborate with other engineers in an iterative, agile development environment with a focus on shipping code and achieving practical results. Participate in code reviews, whiteboard discussions, standups, and pair-programming on a daily basis. Provide day-to-day technical leadership in a collaborative fashion within the team, as well as across the company. Optimize code for all platforms to take full advantage of the hardware. Required skills A high degree of proficiency in either C or C++ Minimum of 6 years experience as a professional game developer. Experience authoring high-performance multi-threaded code. Results-oriented focus with an eye for prioritization of user-experience and with the ability to recognize when and where trade-offs need to be made. Bonus points Previous experience developing MMO games. Previous experience with Havok. Previous experience with Linux development.
