IAC business unit and iWon owner Mindspark Interactive Network announced that it has purchased VoxPop, a "pop culture gaming platform", as well as its trivia game engine. Terms for the deal were not disclosed. Founded in 2006 and based in San Francisco, VoxPop specializes in pop culture games about "opinions, predictions, and facts related to current topics and events." Its platform is designed to allow publishers to convert their content into contextually relevant online games. Mindspark will implement VoxPop's platform and trivia engine, which has been used to create games with trivia mechanics that cover various product types and genres (e.g. movies, TV, music, sports, celebrities, and fashion), into its casual gaming site iWon. Now 11-years-old, iWon was once an internet portal but now hosts a range of classic and new online games, allowing users to win cash and prizes through giveaways. The site currently has 7 milion monthly unique visitors worldwide and has so far awarded 500,000 prizes worth more than $72 million. "iWon is a fantastic home for VoxPop," says VoxPop co-founder Mike Derezin. "[iWon president Gui Karyo] and his leadership team share a similar vision for the potential of online gaming and pop culture. With its 7 million worldwide monthly unique visitors and popular entertainment brands, iWon is uniquely positioned to scale VoxPop's gaming platform."
