If games are Linux-compatible but don't work well with SteamOS, it appears they won't have a compatibility icon any longer.
A report from Gaming On Linux suggests that Valve is proactively removing SteamOS icons from Linux-compatible games -- presumably ones that don't work perfectly with its new OS.
This means that Linux players -- even those who don't use SteamOS -- can't download the games. The service replaced the familiar icon of Linux mascot "Tux" with a SteamOS logo in May, Gaming On Linux reports.
The news first came via a Reddit post that noted that the number of Linux games on the service decreased from week to week.
According to the Gaming On Linux report, Linux users who already purchased games that have had their icons removed can still install and play them.
Valve has posted a FAQ about SteamOS development. Steam Machines that use the Linux-based operating system will begin to ship next month.
