Activision studio Beenox, now lead developer on Spider-Man games based on the company's licensing deal with Marvel, has revealed the next title in that partnership: Spider-Man: Edge of Time.
Activision studio Beenox was recently named lead developer on Spider-Man games based on the company's licensing deal with Marvel, and now the publisher has revealed the next title in that partnership: Spider-Man: Edge of Time. The game will allow players to take on two different incarnations of the iconic super hero: the classic Amazing Spider-Man and a Spider-Man from the year 2099, as time gone awry presents the possibility of a catastrophic future and the hero's early death. Activision global brand management director Vicharin Vadakan said the company is aiming for a "fresh and different" approach, and Beenox studio head Dee Brown said the team intends to innovate on the gameplay. The studio's previous outing with the franchise was last year's Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions. "We want to create a totally distinct experience in Spider-Man: Edge of Time by working with [comic writer] Peter David on the story and creating this urgent, high-stakes experience where time is working against you and the fate of Spider-Man hangs in the balance," explains Brown. The company wants to focus on what it calls "cause-and-effect" gameplay that will let players see how decisions they make on one timeline alters events on the other. The game is slated for release in fall 2011.
