Connect Events announced its inaugural Gametech convention, a two-day business conference covering the video games and interactive entertainment industry, coming to Sydney's Luna Park on June 21st and 22nd. Gametech will feature more than 40 executive speakers from major game publishers and companies like Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, Microsoft, Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, 2K Games, Namco Bandai, Google, Hasbro, and GAME Australia. Brendan O'Connor, the federal minister for the Australian Parliament's Home Affairs, will also deliver a live-link welcome for the event and oversee a discussion on the controversial R18+ classification for video games in the country. The conference will feature an "Unleash the Power of Interactive Entertainment" theme, and offer a pre-event workshop, networking events, and an exhibit space for game technology and products. Connect Events says Gametech will help drive "the development of gamification as a digital engagement tool in Australia." "With the rapid changes in content creation, engagement and distribution, it’s both timely and relevant that we can have a coming together of the diverse business groups which now form the larger interactive gaming industry," says Gametech co-chairman and IGEA chief executive Ron Curry. More information on Gametech and registration details are available on the conference's official site.
