PS4 sales close in on 36 million after holiday boost

A strong holiday season means the PlayStation 4 is tantalizingly close to breaking through the 36 million sales barrier.

Newsbrief: Sony said the PlayStation 4 sold through over 5.7 million units during the 2015 holiday season - the six week period starting on November 22 and finishing on January 3 - meaning the console has now sold 35.9 million units globally since launching in November 2013. 

Software sales saw a boost over the holidays as well, with 35 million PS4 games being sold online and in-store over the same length of time. 

Sony also announced that the number of PlayStation Plus subscribers has increased by 60 percent since the end of 2014.
