Sengoku Basara 3 and Project Diva 2 Dominate Japanese Sales Charts

Among a handful of new releases, Capcom's hack-and-slash brawler Sengoku Basara 3 and Sega's anime-inspired rhythm game Hatsune Miku: Project Diva 2 made strong debuts in Japan, with both titles selling over 240,000 units in their first week

Capcom’s Sengoku Basara 3 for PS3 debuted at the number one video game software sales spot in Japan for the week ended August 1, with Sega's Hatsune Miku: Project Diva 2 following close behind at the number two spot. Tracking firm Media Create revealed Thursday that the PS3 version of Sengoku Basara 3 sold 243,000 units in its first week, and the the Wii version of the game took the number five spot with 50,000 units. Sengoku Basara 3 is a hack-and-slash brawler featuring major figures from Japanese history in an exaggerated anime style. The first game in the series was released in North America as Devil Kings for the PlayStation 2, and Sengoku Basara 3 will be released in the West as Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes later this year. Sega’s anime-based rhythm game Hatsune Miku: Project Diva 2 on PSP made a strong debut, reaching the number two spot with 241,000 units. Other new titles, such as Kamen Rider Battle: Ganbaride Card Battle Taisen on DS, Metal Max 3 on DS, and Ys Vs. Sora no Kiseki: Alternative Saga on PSP, also landed in the top 10 this week. Last week’s top game, Wii Party, fell to the number three spot in the wake of the new releases, and several titles, including Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Dragon Quest: Monster Battle Road Victory, dropped from the top 10 altogether.
