In today's latest column, regular columnist Jim Rossignol presents this week's 'Blogged Out', a news report that looks at the world of developer blogging and the conversations being had with the community at large. This week, Rossignol takes a look at alternate player control ideas, with quotes from International Hobo's Chris Bateman, who describes his 'blind captain' model as follows: “The essence of the blind captain model is that the avatar has a simple (rule-based) artificial intelligence which determines its behaviour, and the player is freed to guide the avatar, rather than to initiate all actions with specific control combinations.” ...and then regales us with tales of Kieron Gillen's playing of Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. "At which point, she throws down a pile of greasy notes in my lap. Her college fund, she announces, and she wants me to have it. After all, she doesn't need it anymore. She's going to drop out of school so she could look after me properly, like she knows she really should. It's like a slap to the face. I wake up." You can read the full Gamasutra column on the subject, which also includes at least one extremely abstract picture (no registration required, please feel free to link to the article from external websites).
