GameFly Rental Chart Highlights: Week Ending May 9th

This week's GameFly video game rental charts for North America, specifically relating to games rented via the games-by-mail service for the week ending May 9th, show popularity over multiple game formats. The cross-platform charts received a total shakeup this week, with several high-profile games making their retail debuts. Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith grabs top honors at #1, followed by the newly lauded Xbox racer Forza Motorsport at #2, and the Martian demon FPS action of Doom 3 at the semantically appropriate #3 slot. Once again proving that Xbox gamers like to try before they buy, the Xbox top three mimic the cross-platform charts exactly: Star Wars Episode III, Forza, and Doom 3, in that order. On the PS2 front, Star Wars Episode III takes the top slot, followed by God of War at #2, and online zombie shooting action takes the bronze, in the form of Resident Evil Outbreak: File #2. In the Gamecube camp, with no major new releases, the top three remain Resident Evil 4 at #1, Star Fox Assault at #2, with Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door at number three. Moving further down the Nintendo path to the Game Boy Advance, we see that Pokémon Emerald has edged out last week’s top two to grab the highest slot. Following the popular tiny monster aggregation simulator are Mario Party Advance at #2, with Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap ranking third. The sports games have made a comeback for Sony’s PSP, with NBA Street Showdown at #1, the cutesy Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee at #2, and Need for Speed Underground Rivals rounding things out at number three. Looking at the DS , it’s back to business as usual, with Yoshi Touch & Go at #1, Wario Ware: Touched! at #2, and Pac Pix in the third slot. Notably absent from the DS chart is the new Star Wars III game, released too late in the week to make any major damage.
