Sharp Corporation, who provided LCD screens to early models of Sony's PlayStation Portable and continues to manufacture screens for the Nintendo DS, has been granted a license from Honeywell to use their special brightness technology in LCD screens. Though Sharp apparently did not previously have an agreement with Honeywell, the fact that they were not named in Honeywell's 2004 suit against certain LCD manufacturers might indicate that an application process was already underway at the time. Either way, Sharp now officially carries Honeywell's stamp of approval along with Philips and Samsung, who currently provides Sony with PSP screens. Commenting on the license, Honeywell CEO Loria Yeadon issued a brief, terse statement: "We congratulate Sharp on its participation in our licensing program, which will enable the company to benefit from Honeywell's technology." Officials from Sharp did not comment.
