UK games industry trade magazine MCV has held its 2005 MCV Excellence Awards, Industry Excellence Awards in London, honoring the industry, retail, and marketing parts of the UK video game business. Launched in 2003, the awards aim to "acknowledge the innovation and creativity of the people and campaigns that drive the computer and video games industry." The winners of the 2005 MCV Excellence Awards are as follows: People & Industry Awards: PR Team: Microsoft Magazine Team: GamesTM UK Development Team: Rockstar North Distribution Team: Centresoft Sales Team: Activision Games Industry Newcomer: Hip Interactive Unsung Hero: ELSPA/Barrington Harvey (Manhunt) Most Improved Company: Sega Retail Awards: Independent Retailer: The Software Store Retail Buying Team:GAME Online Retailer: Amazon General Retailer: HMV Most Improved Retailer: Tesco Specialist Retailer: Gamestation Marketing Awards: New Games Brand: Nintendo DS Games Brand: Grand Theft Auto TV Campaign: PlayStation Trade Marketing Team: Nintendo Marketing Team: Activision Grand Prix Award: Nintendo Stuart Dinsey, managing director of Intent Media, which publishes trade weekly MCV, as well as monthly magazine Develop, commented: "These were hotly-contested accolades, with over 100 industry judges polled across 20 categories... Our congratulations go out to all finalists and winners."
