Parsons The New School for Design has announced the Mobile Game Mosh, a 24-hour design jam where game designers are split into teams and given exactly 24 hours to design a game, under the contest's parameters. The three day event, which takes place at Parsons in New York City, begins on Saturday, March 11, with a tutorial and set-up time beginning at 10:30. The race is on at noon, and ends exactly 24 hours later. The awards ceremony takes place the night of the 13th. This follows on from last year's RetroRedux game design event, which was covered in detail on Gamasutra. Participating teams can create games in one of two categories: either single player, mobile phone screen-based games, or a multiplayer game where phones are used as input for an external display (the website gives the example of the screens at Times Square). The esteemed panel of guest judges this year include Atari CEO Bruno Bonnell, the Museum of Moving Image's Carl Goodman, gameLab's Eric Zimmerman, and Deanna Garcia from Cingular Wireless. Awards and prizes will be given at the end of the competition, with the grand prize of Top Game earning the team $1,500 cash. Additionally, as the contest is sponsored in part by Atari, contestants have a chance to see their game published under the firm's name and distributed by mobile firm Glu. Necessary development tools, guidance, and nutrition will be provided to the teams.
