Numerous reports have appeared online suggesting that Microsoft is planning to release a 100GB sized hard drive for the Xbox 360, following coverage of the X06 media event in South Korea. During the X06 event presentation in the territory, a mock-up slide was shown of a 100GB removable hard drive, appearing to confirm long existing rumors of a larger storage device for the system. A new 256MB memory unit was also pictured alongside the proposed new peripheral. Although Microsoft has not announced the device - in fact, officially declining comment on the matter, the company will be aware that the more expensive of the two PlayStation 3 console configurations features a 60GB hard drive, beyond the current 20gb of the X360 hard disc. In addition, downloadable game demos that were perhaps a little larger than some were expecting (as big as 1GB, in some cases) have meant that the existing Xbox 360 hard drives are filled relatively easily, making a larger hard disc a natural step in the longer-term, especially since the unit is easily detachable. [UPDATE - though various other official statements have been somewhat vaguer, a Microsoft spokesperson has informed consumer site TeamXbox specifically: "We have no plans to bring a 100GB hard drive to the market."]
