At the same press conference which unveiled the hardware statistics and the launch date for Sony's PlayStation 3 next-generation console, the hardware manufacturer unveiled an impressive host of new software for the PS3, which is due for release in Spring 2006. As for Sony's first-party titles, there were a host of new and previously unannounced games. The company showed a next-generation EyeToy title named EYEdentify, Spyro and Ratchet & Clank creator Insomniac showcased a hitherto unknown first-person shooter, and a brief demonstration from the next version of Sony Soho's The Getaway also appeared. In addition, Sony Liverpool's Formula 1, Just Add Monsters' Heavenly Sword, Evolution Studios' Motor Storm, Incognito's WarHawk update, and Guerilla's sequel to KillZone all appeared in some form, as well as footage from a fifth iteration of Sony's Gran Turismo franchise. Outside the first-party Sony titles, Epic demonstrated the latest Unreal Tournament title, Konami's Hideo Kojima confirmed Metal Gear Solid 4 for the PS3, Rockstar showed a Red Dead Revolver-styled title, Namco demonstrated a brief video trailer for Tekken 6, and Capcom confirmed Devil May Cry 4 for the next-gen console. More information on software titles for the console will continue to be released as E3 progresses, although, unlike the Xbox 360, it's believed that there will be no playable PlayStation 3 titles on the E3 Expo show floor.
