A new survey in the UK by battery manufacturer Energizer has found that 42 percent of 25 to 34-year-olds would like to receive a games console as a present this Christmas – the highest-ranked age group surveyed. The figure compares to just 30 percent of 16 to 24-year-olds, reinforcing other recent studies that show the average age of video game players is considerably older than the stereotyped teenager of previous decades. The same survey also polled the top ten most desirable gadgets for Christmas, and found the Wii was ranked the most requested at number two, behind only a high-definition television set. A laptop was ranked as the third most desirable gadget, followed by a satellite navigation system and a digital camera. The survey results found the Nintendo DS ranked second most popular among consoles at number six, followed by the PlayStation 3 at number seven. An iPod or other MP3 player was ranked at number eight, followed by a new mobile phone and then a digital radio. The Xbox 360 and PSP were not mentioned in the list.
